So Much to Be Thankful For!

Thanksgiving came and with it a visit from our good friends the Stiffs (Australians living in Canada for a couple of years). Andy and Jo brought Joy, kids (3 of them) and copious amounts of alcohol! While the kids overran the ping pong table and the air hockey game, and Dan and Andy hung our house Christmas lights, I roasted a fairly large (18+lb) turkey and fixed all the trimmings. Being Australian, the Stiff kids didn't know the story behind the first Thanksgiving, so for a school project the kids and I put together a little skit. Elise made all the costumes, Erin did the Mayflower research and was the Narrator and the boys acted it out. Liam was Miles Standish (Captain of the Mayflower) and Declan was Squanto the Indian (representing all Patuxets). It was about 10 minutes long and hilarious!

The next day, while Dan and Andy took the kids to the park to enjoy the beautiful 60 degree weather, Jo and I headed off for some of that Crazy Black Friday shopping. Unfortunately it was a short trip, two hours out, Erin fell on her rollerblades and broke her left wrist. Dan took her off to emergency and they splinted for her. Luckily, it was not a very bad break and though she does have a cast for 4 weeks, it is not causing her pain and she is still able to swim (we know all about waterproof casts!!).

On Saturday we got a surprise visit from Dan's brother Dave and his wife Barb. It was tremendous to see them! I wish they could have stayed longer but we are all pressed for time these days. We are trying to organize a skiing holiday together soon to see them a bit longer. Should be excellent fun to take the kids downhill skiing! - J

Hi all you Ballestys! Love the pictures, sorry to hear about Erin's accident, and let us know how it goes when you get to use those ski passes (assuming you haven't had enough snow yet to try - it's been the mildest December in Rochester I can remember!) You should post the beautiful family picture you just sent at Christmas.
Love,
Maureen (Aunt Maureen)
