Lord Licorice, Queen Frostin' and the Sugar Plum fairy are gone! They have been replaced by Werewolves, Vampires, Ninjas and even the Grim Reaper. My sweet little kids have decided that the Ghoulish side of Halloween is SO much more fun than the darling dress-up side. Try as I may to try to convince them to be Knights, Fairies and Cheerleaders, it was no contest and the "Dark Side" won out! So with our large contingent of creepy critters (minus one - Elise wasn't feeling well and stayed home with Dad) we headed off to collect our treats. 1 hour later we arrived home laden done with enough sweets to get us through until next year.
Monday night Dan brought home some HUGE pumpkins and we made a last ditch effort to create some cool Jack O' Lanterns for Halloween night. We had put it off and the kids were starting to accept the fact that it wouldn't happen this year, but daddy came through. I didn't carve at all but Dan got right into helping the kids dig out the pumpkins and applying faces. The boys went with traditional geometric faces and the girls went creative with patterns from a book. Erin did a negative image of a cat's face and Elise did a great cutout of a wolf howling at the full moon. There is a photo of the Jack O' Lanterns on the Family Pix page of our website (http://www.velocity.net/~danb), be sure to check it out. - J

Hi Ballestys!
I love the blog, what a great idea. Amazing to hear about the swimming - my only experience of competitive swimming was getting to the inter-school championships and coming last! SO hopefully you will all do better than I did. I love reading all your news and will be checking in regularly. You will be happy to hear that just as the snow kicks in in Erie, the sun starts to shine in sunny Melbourne!
Love to all, Rosie.,
