Another visit from the Fracture Fairy!

One word ... ... Declan. Yesterday my boys were being, well, boys, and Declan tried to hurdle a stone garden wall at ludicrous speed. He ended up knee cap first into the stone! I scooped him up, grabbed the ice and headed to the emergncy room.

After 5 x-rays and some looking over, the Emergency room Doctor said "Good news is his knee cap's not broken ... ... bad news is that when the tendon pulled away it ripped a tiny piece of his Tibia bone with it." Technical name: Avulsion Fracture of the Medial Tibial Plateau. It seems that in kids the tendons and ligaments are actually stronger than the bone at times.

We'll know better on Monday when we see the Orthopedic Doctor what his treament will be. Until then they have him in a knee imobilizer, on crutches and off his leg as much as can be expected for a 9 year old boy!

I'll post a photo soon. - J
