April - May Catch-up

Liam’s First Communion

At the end of April Liam made his First Holy Communion at St. Luke's Church here in Erie, with about 30 other 3rd graders from his church school class. It was a beautiful service and I’m sure he was the handsomest boy there! Grandma and Grandpa Ballesty came down from Marion, NY to celebrate with us and it turned out to be a gorgeous Sunday. Declan will be taking his first communion next April with his church school class.

Family First Sports Park

Early in May, GE sponsored an evening at the local outdoor sports park for all the families in Dan’s group. The kids had the most excellent time! The park has bumper boats, go-karts, batting cages, mini golf and a 35’ outdoor climbing wall. They also have a huge indoor room filled with various size bouncing castles. Erin spent most of her time split between chasing boys on the go-karts and being by herself in the batting cages (able to hit an 80 mph softball no less!). Elise spent a lot of her time trying to get others soaked on the bumper boats ride and playing chase among the bouncy castles. As for the boys, it was a real toss up between the batting cages and the climbing wall. Liam loved the batting cages and the climbing wall, but was really disappointed that he was just a few inches too short to drive the go-karts. Declan actually stayed on the climbing wall until it was almost too dark to see. He was determined to get to the top and wasn’t leaving until he made it. He didn’t make it, but after 3 hours of climbing I assured him that we would come again soon.

Declan’s 8th Birthday

It may not seem so to all of you, but time is passing at break neck speed here. My last little baby turned 8 on May 11. He hates to be referred to as a baby, but he is the last and that will make him my baby 'til the day I die. It amazes me that he is 8 years old already. We had a small family get together on his birthday and then planned his “real” party for a week later. He agonized over where to take his friends and in the end he invited a dozen (of his closest friends) to Chuck E. Cheese’s for an intimate evening of pizza and arcade gaming!! It was loud, chaotic, messy and hectic, all the things 8 year olds love!! He had an awesome time and we ended up having to drag him out at closing time!! - J
