The end of the swim season came with a bang. The night before District finals we were fearful that we wouldn’t make the 3 hour drive south to Indiana, PA. March came in like a Lion starting Friday night and continuing through Saturday night. Mother Nature dumped 22 inches of fresh snow (along with high winds and blizzard conditions) on Erie. Even as late as midnight Saturday, the snows were extremely heavy and visibility was near zero. We were blessed though that the weather broke and the sun came up Sunday morning to clear roads and clear skies for our drive to the swim event.
Western District Swim Finals encompass the fastest swimmers from 38 teams all over the western half of Pennsylvania. Erin was seeded 25th, out of 30 when we arrived at IUP (Indiana University of PA). Her seed time was 29.96 seconds for her 50 yard free style event, just under the qualifying time of 30.00 seconds. She had a great race, finished first in her heat and 20th overall with a final time of 29.75 – a Personal Best time her.
Liam’s First Lobster
On the way back from Districts Erin requested we stop at Red lobster for some King crab legs for dinner and we were able to find a Red Lobster restaurant on the way home. Liam surprised us all by wanting to order a full lobster for dinner, not just a tail, he wanted the whole lobster. So we got him one! It was a memorable event and he loved it! He had a hard time “cracking” the tail away from the back, but once it was open, he mowed right through it. We asked afterward if he would order it again and he quickly assured us that he would. Declan was lukewarm on the whole seafood dinner and Elise was down right uninterested. She does not like seafood of any kind and didn’t like being surrounded by crustacean chomping people. She did try a bit of Declan’s flounder, but stuck with the chicken fingers for her supper. All in all a wonderful way to spend a Sunday. -J
