Saturday afternoon we joined the Kisak's for a trip to Asia via Mercyhurst College. Which was a wonderful conicidence since Dan has been in India and China for the last 12 days. The festival was held at the local University and 8 Asian countries were represented. China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Philippines and Singapore were all represented with booths set up displaying various items form the countries. There were native foods to try from each country and an ongoing stage presentation of different dances and songs from the different countries. There were arts and crafts for the kids to make and Elise got delicate Indian face painting done. The boys opted for Japanese Kabuki Warrior style face painting (red, black and very ferocious looking). Erin decided to get a Henna tattoo on her hand. Henna is a burnt orange paste that they apply to your skin, you then let it dry (2-5 hours, so be prepared to not use your hand!!). Once the henna dries and flakes off your skin you are left with a "tattoo" that will last between 1 and 3 weeks. As expected, once we got home, we had to look online for a place to buy Henna of our own to "tattoo" each other. Since Dan was over in Asia in while we were at the fair, it was great to show the kids some of the cultural items from the countries he was visiting and to let them try some of the foods that he would be eating while overseas.
WLD Ranch Trip
On Wednesday, the kids went off to WLD Ranch on a day camp style field day. They all got to ride horses a bit, learn about rope tying, try out some archery and generally have a fun day with a large group of their homeschooled friends. Unfortunately, it rained pretty heavily all day and some of the activities were closed. They didn't get to try the rope bridge challenge course or the rock climbing that were usually offered, but they didn't mind too much. Having 25 of your closest friends around tends to make it a good day no matter what the weather is like.

Dan arrives back home from his Asia trip on Friday night the 27th. Hopefully once he gets rested I can post some of his photos of China and India. - J
