The Lost Summer - Part 1

I can hardly believe that an entire season has past with no updates to our blog. As autumn falls upon us (couldn’t resist), it reminds me that I have lost touch with keeping people up to date. It may as well go down as the summer we dropped from the face of the earth. Actually, our summer was pretty much the same, as always, I just didn’t seem to get the time to update the blog.

In July, my Dad and his wife Jo came down to visit us. It was a great visit. The kids really loved having Grandma and Grandpa stay with us. It was over much too quickly and we promised to try to get the kids up to visit both them and Acadia National park before the end of the year. While they were down from Maine, we hosted an Independence Day party (on the 6th) with 8 or 10 other families. The kids outnumbered the adults by 2 to 1 but everything went wonderfully. The evening culminated in Dan’s masterful Fireworks display, which brought praiseful phone calls from neighbors and a quick visit from our local constable! Not to worry, it was just a request to keep it safe.

Summer sports involved the ever present swimming and soccer. The swim season was 7 weeks long in June and July and all 4 kids competed. They all brought their event times down and Liam’s relay team finished in First place at Championships. They all swam really well and all agreed that the summer season was just way too short. The boys both played outdoor summer soccer and with Dan’s extra tutelage (2 nights a week drilling at the soccer pitch after work) they both played exceptionally well. The YMCA teams are less competitive and both boys have expressed an interest in next summer switching to another league. A league where they not only keep score during the games (the YMCA doesn’t do this) but also practice for more than ½ hour one night a week. As for now, the kids are all looking forward to the new fall swim season which begins Oct 1st. - J
