The End of Swim

The swim season is NOW officially over (for us at least). Erin swam her last meet on March 17th at the District Finals in Indiana, PA. She placed 30th in a field of 46 girls swimming her event and moved up 6 places in the rankings. She did not finish in the top 9 - the ranking needed to continue onto the State Finals but took another second off her time. We are very proud of how well she swam this season. Not a bad year for a kid who was afraid of the pool at 4 years old! The rest of us went along to Indiana, PA to cheer her on. Elise even made a big sign that read "GO ERIN" to hold up during her event. It was ironic that it was to be the last meet of the season and the first meet I had to drive to in a blinding snow storm! Usually, we brave it out through blowing snow going to some of the meets in Jan. or Feb. but this year we were fortunate that most storms hit mid week and by travel time on Saturdays the weather was usually clear. Not so for the Eve of St. Patricks Day. It had been snowing and blowing most of the day and by the time Dan got out work at 6:00 there were 6+ inches on the ground and it showed no signs of letting up. Hunckering down and leaving in the morning wasn't option as Erin had to be at the pool at 6:30am and it was a 3 hour drive. We headed out, taking it nice and slow, and arrived without major incident at 11:15pm that night. It was a long slow drive but Dan did his best to support me by sleeping soundly (without snoring thank goodness!) in the passenger seat the whole way!! We had a great time, the weather cleared, and were able to head home early enough Saturday (after her event) to get a short rest and then head over to our friends the Kisak's for some delicious Irish Stew and a bit of the St. Patty's Day grog! - J
